Three truck drivers have been confirmed dead and two others injured after unknown gunmen ambushed a fleet of vehicles along Juba-Bor road.

The convoy was traveling from Juba to Bor when it came under attack.

One of the survivors, Brigadier General Daniel Mabior Garang, said the incident happened in Lihlivillage, Central Equatoria State at around 7 PM.

‘’When we reached Lihli we found two sino trucks parked and the drivers were lying dead on the ground. The youth standing on the road tried to stop us but we proceeded with our journey. When we refused to stop they started shooting at our vehicles.’’He said.

‘’They were youths wearing kanzu and blankets and were standing in the middle of the road near their homes. Even if they say what, I know those people Mundri’’ He pointed out.

Eyewitness Anyuat Mach, whose vehicle was also targeted said the criminals looted the Sino trucks.

‘’I was the first driver heading to Bor. When I reached the scene, I saw the dead bodies of the three people lying in the middle of the road. I also saw people taking goods from the two trucks and they tried to stop me but I proceeded. People are unhurt but my car’s engine was badly damaged.’’ He narrated.

The Chairperson of Bor Drivers’ Union, Deng Jool, confirmed the incident and urged the drivers to avoid traveling during early morning and late evening hours.

‘’My message to the drivers is to limit travelling in the late hours. At 3 PM no driver should travel to and from Juba. In these hours the criminal can think of attacking people. This is what we always tell them but they don’t listen’’ He said.

Jool added that the security forces deployed to the crime scene to gather accurate information.
The victims have been identified as two Ethiopians and one Somali national.
