A Jonglei-based civil society activist has welcomed the visit of the African Panel of the Wise to Juba amid escalating tensions between President Salva Kiir and Vice President Riek Machar.

The panel is set to engage in dialogue with President Kiir to address and resolve the ongoing disputes between him and Vice President Machar.

Bol Deng Bol, Chairperson of the Jonglei Civil Society Network, urged the panel to also meet with Machar before concluding their visit to ensure a balanced approach to the mediation process.

“I want to urge them to do the needful and remain engaging the leaders in the country, including the first vice president who is currently under detention in Juba. Don’t leave Juba without first visiting the first vice president,” He stated

Bol further advised the panel to remain in South Sudan until a resolution is reached, emphasizing that their efforts should lead to lasting peace for the South Sudanese people.

“Don’t leave Juba until the atmosphere of dialogue is made alive in the country. That leaders, the president, first vice president and other presidents are able to meet on a round table and address amicably the differences among them,” He said.

Bol added that if the panel of the wise, resolve Kiir and Machar’s differences, South Sudanese will forever live to remember them for their efforts.
