Plan International in collaboration with World Food Program have started distributing relief food to the population in Pigi County of Jonglei State after going for three months without the relief.

The Commissioner of Pigi County Suliman Deng Thon said at total of 32000 people from two payams.

‘’ This week Plan International and World Food Program started bringing food to the whole county. Right now I am in canal and the distribution started yesterday and will take a week. In wulempayam 18,000 people were registered and the same to Khorfulus payam 18,000 people were also registered..’’ He stated.

He said the ratio distributed to the population is for two months.

The commissioner also called on the other organizations to fill the gap in the area of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH).

‘’I call upon WASH partners to help us because people in Pigi County drink water from the river and there is no any other source of water. In January there were high cases of cholera due to poor sanitation and dirt drinking water. So I am calling on Humanitarian organizations to help us in the area of WASH.’’ The commissioner said.

He appreciated the two organizations for distributing food to the population in his county.
He advised people in South Sudan to prepare their farms as the rain season is approaching in the next few months.
